“Our marine environment is part of our national identity. Preserving it is a duty we all share. The Seabed Cleaning Initiative has grown into a meaningful annual effort that brings institutions and community members together around one purpose. Each edition strengthens our collective commitment to protecting Qatar’s natural resources for the future.”

Doha, Qatar, December 2, 2025 – Old Doha Port successfully completed the third edition of its Seabed Cleaning Initiative, reaffirming its commitment to protecting Qatar’s marine environment and strengthening community engagement. Since its launch in 2023, the initiative has become a central element of the port’s environmental program and continues to contribute to the national agenda for sustainable development and environmental protection.

This year’s edition brought together certified divers, government partners, and private sector entities in a coordinated operation along Old Doha Port’s waterfront. Divers removed accumulated waste from depths reaching up to 6 meters. Items collected included plastic materials, fishing lines, nets, and heavy debris that pose risks to marine life and safe navigation. The areas covered were identified through detailed seabed assessments conducted before the operation.

The initiative was supported by a wide range of partners. The Ministry of Municipality provided equipment and logistical backing, and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change offered environmental oversight and guidance. ExxonMobil Qatar served as a strategic contributor. Seashore managed on-site waste sorting and ensured that recyclable materials were directed to the appropriate facilities. The General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security ensured diver safety throughout the entire seabed cleaning. Additionally, Arab Center for Engineering Studies (ACES) delivered sustainability workshops and interactive games for children, helping raise awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship. Other key participants included Green Energy, Athar Al Fardan, Al Fardan Marine Services, Hi Wash and Mr. Valet.

Engineer Mohamed Abdulla Al Mulla, CEO of Old Doha Port, stated that the initiative reflects the port’s responsibility toward Qatar’s coastal environment.

“Our marine environment is part of our national identity. Preserving it is a duty we all share. The Seabed Cleaning Initiative has grown into a meaningful annual effort that brings institutions and community members together around one purpose. Each edition strengthens our collective commitment to protecting Qatar’s natural resources for the future,” he said.

“Our collaboration with Old Doha Port on the Seabed Cleaning Initiative reflects our shared responsibility in protecting the environment, preserving marine life, and advancing sustainability for generations to come. We are proud to join Old Doha Port in this initiative and thank them for leading the effort and inspiring action,” said Rashid Al-Hajri, Vice President and Manager of Public and Government Affairs at ExxonMobil Qatar.

The initiative aligns with the Environmental Development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, which calls for the protection of natural resources and the preservation of ecological balance. Through this program, Old Doha Port contributes to national efforts to enhance environmental stewardship and strengthen community participation.

Launched in 2023, the Seabed Cleaning Initiative has expanded with each edition. It now stands as a cornerstone of Old Doha Port’s long-term sustainability agenda, with plans to broaden its scope and deepen community involvement in the years ahead.
